With the wars in Ukraine and Gaza leading to ever greater humanitarian destruction, supporting peace and stability is now more important than ever. Against nationalism and doctrines of national entrenchment, our aim is to plan, shape and support – at an international, European and national level– an active policy of diplomatic initiatives for peace in the region as well for the promotion of regional cooperation and peaceful resolution of disputes on the basis of international law. In this context, dialogue is necessary to strengthen Greece’s role as a European pillar of peace and stability –with the confidence both to defend its sovereignty and sovereign rights and to peacefully resolve its differences with its neighbors.

The Objectives and Mission of the Alexis Tsipras Institute
The Alexis Tsipras Institute aims to develop and promote progressive policies and initiatives for peace, justice and sustainable growth in Greece, Europe and the wider region. The Institute supports the need for broader convergence of democratic and – particularly – progressive forces, around coherent policies aiming at improving citizens’ lives, protecting democratic values and strengthening Greece’s international, European and regional role.
The objectives of the Alexis Tsipras Institute are also reflected in its logo and motto through the symbols of equality, the ancient Greek column and the alternation of specific words that highlight its goals.
The column is a symbol of strength and measure in ancient Greek architecture. It does not just support structures, but values. It symbolizes the geopolitical role of Greece as a European pillar of peace and stability in the region. An international role linked to the upholding of international law, the Prespa Agreement and the efforts for peace at a global and regional level.
At the same time, the “equal” sign stands out, symbolizing equality and the struggles for social justice and human rights, against all forms of inequality and discrimination.
Underneath the sign alternates the motto of the Institute supporting the active participation of citizens in shaping a future that cannot but be a shared one: both in terms of the challenges and crises that they face, as well as in terms of their collective prospects and aspirations. A common future we are shaping, together.
The words that alternate are specific: Claiming, planning, creating, defending, building, advancing, enhancing, cultivating, choosing, deciding… And they are intertwined with the motto: “Alexis Tsipras Institute – Shaping Our Common Future”.
The logo, motto and messages of the Alexis Tsipras Institute are dynamic: on the basis of a solid heritage of values, against war, nationalism, inequalities, discrimination, we are shaping our common future.
The recent pandemic, the economic and refugee crises, as well as growing security and social challenges highlight the importance of safeguarding justice, the rule of law and human rights at an international, European and national level. Our aim is to shape and support policies that will strengthen safeguards, related to state and government accountability, the protection of citizens’ rights, eliminating discrimination and restoring citizens’ trust in the judiciary.
The simultaneous unfolding of multiple crises –climate change, the fragmentation of international economic relations, the widening of economic inequalities and the increase of public and private debt– make a substantial dialogue for sustainable development at the international, European and national level, necessary. Our aim is to contribute to this dialogue by drafting and formulating credible progressive policies that promote sustainable growth and social cohesion and reduce inequalities, while protecting macroeconomic stability and strengthening the resilience of the economy.
