Imamoglu Ekrem
Born in 1970 in Akçaabat district of Trabzon. After graduating from Trabzon High School, he completed his undergraduate and then graduate studies at Istanbul University. His active political life started in 2008 as a member of the Republican People’s Party. He was elected Mayor of Beylikdüzü with 50.8% of the votes in the local elections on March 30, 2014. In the 2019 local elections, he was elected as the Mayor of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality twice, first on March 31 and then on June 23.
He was re-elected as the Mayor of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality by receiving 51.14% of the votes in the local elections held on March 31, 2024. He became the 6th President of the Union of Municipalities of Türkiye (TBB), which was held on June 5, 2024.
